"..It is extremely rare that you can walk down a street and witness a man in a suit dancing next to some one wearing cut off jeans and a tshirt. This diversity combined with the historic elegance of Lake Worth are what make it so special and make me so proud to be the Mayor..." Marc J Drautz (Mayor 05-07) |
"...In my nearly seven years living in Lake Worth I have re-discovered what the word community really means. The people who habit this town are as eclectic and charming as the architecture in our neighborhoods. The diversity of heritage, lifestyle and politics knows no bounds. For me, living here has been in many ways challenging, often surprising, sometimes frustrating and always ...as alive and vibrant as any place I've ever been..." David S. | "...I moved to Lake Worth from New York in 2001. It was the best move I ever made! I chose this city because of its "Key West" feel, its cultural diversity and close-knit community. In the relatively short time that I have been here, I have met many extremely interesting people from all walks of life, who are not only my neighbors, but have become close friends. Before I moved, I was afraid Florida would not have the cultural stimulation I crave, but Lake Worth has all I need: live music, festivals, theaters, cafes, restaurants, art galleries, community events and best of all, the beautiful white-sand beach at my doorstep!..." ...well almost at my doorstep ;) Lauren K. | After selling real estate in Miami's South Beach for nearly ten years, during its incredible revitalization and renaissance in the 1990's, I thought I would never again find an unpolished jewel quite the same. Well I did! Lake Worth is a historic charming town that is just now being rediscovered and revitalized in a similar pattern to what many saw happen in South Beach, Coconut Grove, Key West, and Provincetown. It is extremely exciting and fulfilling to once again be part of restoring such a special place to its original splendor and beyond. And of course it is very profitable to invest in the area while we are still very much on our ground floor with so much upside ahead of us. The Lake Worth lifestyle is what I enjoy most.... friendly people, eclectic character, small human-scale structures with tremendous warmth and charm.... a comfortable small town feel in sunny South Florida. I'm not sure a better format for living could possibly exist! Bret Taylor Lake Worth Resident for 2 years www.383-BRET.com |
| I swore I would never leave my home at the beach in Delray the "Village by the Sea". Then the spirit and individuality left Delray and it has become the "Overpriced, townhouse clogged, attitude by the Sea". As an artist in search of a home that felt like home, I settled in Lake Worth two years ago. Not a day goes by without something or someone reminding me of why this town is such a treasure. Briming with talented artists, writers, actors, musicians and plenty of local characters, there is no end to the opportunities to get involved, mingle, dance, grow and commune in sort of an "Andy of Mayberry meets Northern Exposure" way. At any moment, if you need a good chuckle, drive through downtown Lake Worth. You'll laugh with us not at us because it is the odd and quirky that makes this place so real. I love it here and hope to help the town's efforts to grow and change without loosing the individuality that makes this place home. STELLA, Lake Worth Resident for 2 years. |
| Standing at a Hawaiian restaurant, I encounter a woman wearing a grass skirt and coconut bra, talking to several of the "Red Hat Ladies". Across the street, some young men load up their surfboards onto an old VW bus, careful not to bump into the Palm Beach couple in designer clothing. A bike-riding vegan friend flies by with an invitation to the drumming circle, and somewhere on the Avenue, new talents may emerge on Open-Mike Night. With over 30 restaurants, from $1.50 tacos to $150 entrees, there's a menu to satisfy everyone. And enough fun stores and antique malls to get what you need quickly or spend the day looking for it. The sense of community is what I love most about Lake Worth, and the quirky, funky citizens that make up this slice of old Florida. The beach is our best asset and I start my day with a quick walk in the sand and then jump into the Municipal Pool for a vigorous water aerobics class- sometimes ending up at Benny¹s for a second breakfast. Nights are for dog walks, socializing and sometimes the Bamboo Room one of the finest blues clubs in the U.S. The diversity, not only in race, ethnicity, and socio-economic terms, but the interests and talents of our community all of that enticed me to live in Lake Worth and invest in our future. I moved from North Carolina to Lake Worth in 2002. I started a small business with two other business partners in Downtown. We picked this location because of the people and the feel of the community. My sister and I sold our house that was out west and I found a home 3 blocks from Downtown. I have the best neighbors and friends, we are always spending the weekends chilling on the back porch, downtown having dinner or sitting outside on the sidewalk drinking coffee. What I love the most is the big open sky, I walk on the beach when there is a full moon and soak in all of my surroundings. There's no other place like lake worth.. you should visit us here sometime. "Lake Worth offers so many benefits to its residents -- a plethora of restaurants and bars, the beach, shopping, a charming old-Florida downtown, diversity, accessibility, a thriving arts and theatre culture, street festivals, live music, real community feel, and a true "live and let live" state of mind. I can't imagine a more fun and interesting place to live that allows me to walk to the beach, hop on the interstate within minutes, or meet up with friends at one of the 30 restaurants within a five-block walk of my house. We are the best-kept secret in south Florida." Leslie S. Lake Worth Resident for 3 years |
